Katie @ 15 months
By Marisa | June 21, 2009
Katie had a checkup this week. Here are the newest stats, along with her 1 year stats in parenthesis since I forgot to post those:
19lb 10oz (up from 17lb 10oz - a HUGE jump for Katie!)
28.75″ (up from 27.75″, again a good leap)
47.4cm head (up from 46.8cm)
She’s now in the 9th percentile for length and 7th percentile for weight. Her head is still huge - 87th percentile, but that’s a drop from the 91st percentile at a year. The rest of her is slowly catching up.
Other recent developments:
- Katie has 8 teeth now - all four front teeth (top and bottom) and all four first molars. The bottom left molar is completely out, and the other molars are in the process of coming through. She got her first tooth in late April, and the 8th just poked through, so they’ve been coming in fast.
- She has started traditional crawling, in addition to her army-man style.
- She is pulling up on everything.
- She said her first word last month - “ball.” She’s got some other sounds (mommommom) but ball is the only one that is clear and that we know she is using for something specific.
- I cut off her rat tail this week. She’d lost at least half of it, probably by it getting caught in shirt buttons, etc. I finally broke down and cut it off after she was yanking on it; since she’s had that hair since she was born I wanted to save it for the baby book and thought I should probably cut it while there was still something to save. She has not yet had her first real hair cut, although her bangs are getting long enough that the day is probably coming soon.
Recent pictures:
Katie tried watermelon. She thought squishing it was more fun than eating it. (She had eaten something else messy prior, which ended up in her hair).
We tried to block off the hallway with a chair, but Katie figured out she could try to agility tunnel her way through it.
She enjoys going after the vacuum, one of the things she loves that she knows we don’t want her touching (the others being the baby gate and the cabinets).
Crawling through an approved agility tunnel, with her favorite toy (ball) in hand.
Molly is not enjoying Katie as much lately, as Katie has gone from gently loving on her puppy to pulling on Molly’s hair. Molly is such a sweetheart that she just lays there and takes it. Occasionally Molly will get annoyed enough to get up and walk away, but she always comes right back to where Katie is so that the process starts over.
Katie stands up on everything and anything. Bathtime is kind of difficult now, as Katie keeps attempting to stand in the tub.
Last weekend it got up to 80, so we took Katie outside to play with the water table that she got for Christmas.
She was initially a little reserved about it.
Then she decided touching the water was good.
Sometimes when Katie is working hard, she sticks her tongue out.
Sharing the toys with Mama.
Not a great picture, but you can see the top two teeth.
She had a lot of fun with the table, especially when she dumped water on me instead of in the table. I am pretty sure she is going to love swimming.
Katie’s hair is getting long, but I just got 4″ cut off!

Forward Motion!
By Marisa | March 30, 2009
After months of moving backwards and sideways, Katie has figured out how to move forward! It’s not real crawling, but more like a combination of the breaststroke and army man crawling. Good thing our stairway gate is coming today.
Other recent pictures:
Katie had her 2nd St. Patrick’s Day; I was dumb and bought a 9 month size top instead of 6 months so it’s too big.
I try to get Katie to wear her sunglasses in the car.
We got a new stroller.
Katie would not set her phone down to try out the stroller.
Katie’s other recent accomplishment is to shake her head no and to shake her body for yes:

Katie @ 10 months
By Marisa | January 18, 2009
No length update, but she’s now 17lb 1oz (12th percentile).
Trying to take a picture of Katie and Molly side-by-side was just not working, as Katie decided touching Molly would be more fun:
“I touched the puppy!”
Molly finally had enough and ran away.
“Get back here, puppy!”
“Where’s Molly?”
When Katie finally decides to crawl, I bet it will be to go after Molly.

Molly Update
By Marisa | January 4, 2009
Molly hasn’t had an update in awhile. After the trauma surrounding her yearly bath, she had a decent Christmas. She’s been enjoying having a Nylabone, although it’s reaching the point where she’s chewed it too much.
We took her with us to Illinois, but she had to ride in the front seat instead of the back. She didn’t mind too much, except that the Trailblazer is noisy and she didn’t like driving over puddles. I think she also missed having her favorite vent to shove her nose into.
This is mainly a slideshow, but there are two mini-video clips at the end. The story behind the bib - I saw a Bears bib at Dominick’s and picked it up for Katie. When I took it out to show Mike, Molly sat up and looked really interested in it. So I jokingly went to put it on her, expecting her to run away. But she didn’t and wore it for quite awhile.

Merry Christmas!
By Marisa | December 25, 2008
Here are some pictures:
Katie and me on Christmas Eve in our matching PJs. Mike does not have a matching pair.
Our (fake) Christmas tree. I wanted a prelit tree with colored lights but could only find white lights. We finally found an unlit tree at Fleet Farm, and that was better because then we were able to get big colored LED lights.
Katie on Christmas morning.
We gave Molly a Nylabone for Christmas and she was super excited since it’s been awhile since she has had one. I tossed it to her right before lunch so that she would have something to do other than stare at us in confusion.
Christmas dinner - crockpot stuffing, garlic mashed potatoes, garlic butter rolls, multigrain rolls, fake turkey, real turkey, corn and broccoli.
Daube’s carrot cake for dessert + pumpkin pie. Way too much food for two people!
Katie got some mashed potato …
which she played with more than she ate.
Katie with her presents.
Katie loved this red bow.
She also liked this scrap of paper.
We tried to take a family picture, but Katie was not in the mood.

Happy Thanksgiving!
By Marisa | November 27, 2008
We all enjoyed our first Minnesota Thanksgiving today. We almost would’ve been able to eat at Mike’s requested 12:02 except that I insisted on attempting to take a family picture first:
Trying to get Katie to look at the camera was hard and I look like a goober because I was trying to make her smile.
I gave Katie some mushed up sweet potatoes to eat (play with) while we were eating.
It looks like she’s feeding herself, but I think she just wanted to put her hands in her mouth and they just happened to have potato on them.
Of course, Molly had to see what was going on.
I took the bowl away after Katie almost dropped it on the floor and she was not pleased by that.
She perked up a little when I showed her she still had potatoes to play with.
Here are some pictures of Katie’s outfits for today:
She started out the day in her PJs. The feet say “Little Turkey” and there’s a turkey on the side of the body.
Baby’s First Thanksgiving onesie
I liked the turkey that Carters used on their Thanksgiving stuff this year.

Katie @ 8 months
By Marisa | November 15, 2008
No stats update for this month - our first month without a weight check. Katie has to go back for her second flu shot next weekend, so it won’t be a vaccination-free month, however.
Last month’s accomplishment was sitting unassisted and this month she has gotten much more stable/improved her balance.
She continues to enjoy watching Molly play. Molly is interested in Katie (especially if Katie’s eating) but also still a little unsure. Molly does not enjoy Katie’s attempts to pet her - we’re working on “gentle touches” but Katie much prefers grabbing and pulling. Molly does often run over to Katie’s carseat after work, as if to say hi to her. And Mike has noticed Molly showing some protectiveness towards Katie.
One of Katie’s favorite things to do is standing with help. She can definitely hold her weight, but she’s still working on balance (and has to learn how to get up to a stand on her own).
Tonight I helped her stand and grab onto the couch and she managed to stand without help for a short bit before losing her balance.
Some other pictures from tonight:
